Materials up on AI Demand Optimism

Producers of metals, grains and other raw materials rose as optimism about the artificial-intelligence boom offset concerns about rising interest rates.

Futures contracts for copper, a metal in high demand because of its uses in wiring, closed within 3.2% of all-time highs.

The U.S. dollar continued to gain against rivals as budget and unrest concerns in France weighed on the euro.

Gold futures slipped $5.30 per troy ounce, or 0.1%, to $4128.40.
