Air New Zealand (NZE:AIR, ASX:AIZ) has accepted the findings of a Transport Accident Investigation Commission (TAIC) report into an engine fire that impacted a flight from Christchurch to Wellington on Sept. 1, according to a Wednesday update on the company's website.

"TAIC found the fire was caused by fatigue in a turbine blade, with no evidence of an Air New Zealand maintenance or operating issue contributing to the failure," said Air New Zealand Chief Safety and Risk Officer Nathan McGraw.

The crew landed the aircraft safely and evacuated the passengers, although the evacuation "took longer than we would want," McGraw said.

He added that the company has already "made changes to strengthen our training, procedures, and passenger safety information."

Air New Zealand's Australian shares gained 2% in recent Thursday trade, while its New Zealand shares fell 2%.
