Samsung Electronics (KRX:005930) and its affiliates will invest a combined $1 billion in Helix Digital Infrastructure, an artificial intelligence infrastructure company formed by global investment firm KKR.

Samsung Electronics is contributing $500 million to the investment, with the remaining half provided by Samsung C&T (KRX:028260), Samsung SDS (KRX:018260), Samsung SDI (KRX:006400), Samsung Life Insurance (KRX:032830) and Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance (KRX:000810), the South Korean electronics company said in a Tuesday news release.

The South Korean conglomerate's capital injection builds on more than $10 billion already committed to Helix by its founding investors, which include KKR, the Kuwait Investment Authority, NVIDIA, and US power company Vistra, KKR said in a separate release.

Led by former Amazon Web Services CEO Adam Selipsky, Helix is an AI-enabling infrastructure company spanning hyperscale data center development and operations, power generation, transmission and distribution, and fiber-optic networks.

Helix looks to secure energy capacity through direct investments and partnerships with major energy developers, including Vistra.

Samsung will also leverage its advanced technology, construction, energy storage, and cooling to support AI infrastructure and cooperation with Helix.
