BSR Real Estate Investment Trust said Wednesday that its board of trustees has approved listing its units to trade on the New York Stock Exchange under the new ticker symbol BSRT.

The company's stock currently trades on the Toronto Stock Exchange.

BSR said it plans to list its units in New York in mid-October, at which time it will also change its ticker symbol on the Toronto Exchange to BSRT.UN from HOM.UN.

"Listing on the NYSE aligns the REIT's assets, operations, and functional currency with the world's largest equity exchange by market capitalization, responds to continuous investor demand arising in the United States, and streamlines the trading dynamics for existing and prospective investors," President and Chief Executive Dan Oberste said in a statement.
