Energy stocks fell late Tuesday afternoon, with the NYSE Energy Sector Index declining 1.3% and the State Street Energy Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLE) shedding 0.9%.
The Philadelphia Oil Service Sector Index dropped 2.3%, and the Dow Jones US Utilities Index added 1.2%.
West Texas Intermediate crude oil fell 3.6% to $89.27 a barrel, and global benchmark Brent shed 2.5% to $102.66 a barrel. Henry Hub natural gas futures lost 2.8% to $3.02 per 1 million BTU.
In corporate news, Uranium Energy (UEC) reported a fiscal Q4 net loss Tuesday of $0.12 per diluted share, compared with a loss of $0.06 a year earlier. Analysts polled by FactSet expected a loss of $0.04. Sales and service revenue for the quarter ended July 31 was $17.1 million. A single analyst expected $9 million. The company's shares were fractionally lower.
