Hewlett Packard Enterprise inked a $1.2 billion deal to provide private cloud infrastructure company Vultr with AI servers, marking its first order for its system built on Advanced Micro Devices' Helios rack.

The new order builds on nearly three years of collaboration between Vultr and Juniper Networks that continues to grow now that Juniper Networks is a part of HPE, the company said. HPE bought Juniper last year.

HPE and AMD will support Vultr's effort to meet service provider and enterprise demand for model training and inferencing workloads in Vultr's data centers.

"AI is driving the largest infrastructure buildout in history and together with AMD and Vultr, we are building an open foundation to accelerate the next phase of AI," HPE CEO Antonio Neri said.

HPE continues to benefit from broad-based artificial-intelligence adoption, with infrastructure investments and modernization driving demand for its servers and networking solutions, HPE's chief financial officer, Marie Myers, said earlier this month.

The company previously said they were set to announce two multi-billion-dollar deals that closed after the end of their recent quarter--one data-center networking deal and one enterprise AI deal with a hyperscaler. HPE had said the networking deal in particular was a "big proof point" for its opportunity in data-center networking, citing its Juniper deal.
