Samsung Electronics (KRX:005930) expects its foundry customers to increase by about four times by 2029 compared to 2017, The Korea Times reported Tuesday, citing Noh Mi-jung, the technology giant's senior vice president.
The foundry business' client base has grown about threefold since its formation as an independent division in 2017, the report said, citing Noh's remarks during Korea Premium Week 2026.
A diversification plan for the company's foundry segment should increase the share of high-performance computing in the whole business to 66% by 2029 from 5% in 2017, the report said.
The company looks to begin construction of a second fab at its Texas semiconductor complex within 2026 and plans to start operations at its first fab by the end of the year, the report said.
