Alibaba Group's (BABA) AliExpress is testing an invitation-only VIP program for high-spending customers in several markets, The Information reported Wednesday, citing a person familiar with the effort.
The program, called Elite, is available to customers who spend more than $800 a year on AliExpress, with pilots underway in Australia, the UK, Germany and Spain, according to the report.
Elite has no membership fee and offers members an additional 5% discount on many products, 24-hour customer support and easier returns, it added.
AliExpress plans to expand the program to other European markets and South Korea next month and eventually launch it in the US, The Information reported. The company internally expects the program to reach 1 million members by year-end, according to the report.
Alibaba did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.
