Apple has launched its mobile payment services in India, entering one of the world's fastest-growing markets for cashless transactions.
Users in India can now use Apple Pay on iPhones, iPads and Apple Watches via a partnership with Axis Bank, one of the largest private-sector lenders in the country.
Customers with Axis Bank-issued Visa and Mastercard credit cards can add them to Apple Pay to make purchases at stores and online, Apple said Wednesday.
The move positions the tech giant to tap the millions of consumers in India that are increasingly using non-cash payments.
According to the India Brand Equity Foundation, the South Asian economy's consumer market is set to grow by 46% by 2030, driven by rising incomes, a young workforce and rapid urbanization. Consumer spending is estimated to reach $4.3 trillion by the end of the decade, up from $2.4 trillion in 2024.
A growing segment of that expanding consumer class is using cashless payment methods, a trend fueled by the establishment of the Unified Payments Interface--the backbone of India's digital payments ecosystem. As of 2025, UPI accounted for nearly 49% percent of the world's real-time payment transaction volume, officials have said.
Apple said its payment services will be accepted by millions of merchants across the country including at Apple Store locations, Reliance brands and Zomato.
Support for payments on Apple's Mac computers will come soon.
"India is home to a dynamic and digitally savvy population that continues to embrace a cashless future," said Jennifer Bailey, vice president of Apple Pay and Apple Wallet.
Apple Pay is available in more than 90 countries and regions and works with more than 11,000 bank and network partners worldwide, according to the company.
