Healthcare Stocks Rise Despite Broad Market Selloff

The healthcare sector was one of the few to escape another losing day in U.S. stocks.

Grail received a favorable vote from a Food and Drug Administration panel regarding premarket approval for its Galleri multi-cancer early detection test. The cancer-detection company said the FDA's medical devices advisory committee voted to greenlight a premarket approval application for Galleri. The FDA is expected to make its final ruling on Galleri's premarket approval in the coming months.

Interest in natural fibers such as cotton and wool is rising as people seek clothing that's safe and sustainable. But while natural fibers in many cases may use fewer chemicals than synthetics, a body of research is challenging whether they deserve a free pass. Scientists are finding chemicals in cotton and other natural-fiber clothing that, in studies not specific to apparel, have been shown to penetrate skin and cause health effects at sufficient exposures. Natural-fiber garments also shed microfibers that have been found in oceans and human lung tissue, can persist in the environment and have harmed marine organisms in laboratory studies.
