President Donald Trump announced on September 26 that he had approved new fuel economy standards, which he said terminate former President Joe Biden and Pete Buttigieg's "ridiculous EV Mandate." In a post on X, Trump claimed the standards would lower the cost of building cars in America, resulting in lower prices and saving families thousands of dollars on new vehicles.
Trump criticized Democrats for costing American auto manufacturers billions of dollars, forcing Americans into cars they never wanted, and wasting billions on chargers that were never built. He asserted the new standards "will take the waste out of building cars in America," making cars cheaper, more beautiful, and safer.
The President stated that manufacturers from General Motors to Ford to Stellantis have all called him wanting to build in the U.S. and now can. He claimed over $100 billion is being invested in American autos under his administration, with plants and jobs returning to Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, South Carolina, and other states. Trump thanked Secretaries Sean Duffy and Howard Lutnick.
