BOJ Likely to Raise Policy Rate Every Four to Five Months

0422 GMT - The Bank of Japan is likely to raise its policy rate every four to five months, says Yoshimasa Maruyama of SMBC Nikko Securities in a note. The Japanese central bank raised the rate to 1.25% last Friday, just three months after its previous rate increase. Excessively fast-paced tightening could cause downside risks to the economy, he says, adding that the BOJ could shorten the span to three months if upside risks in inflation increase substantially. SMBC Nikko expects the central bank to raise the rate in January and June next year to a terminal rate of 1.75%.
