Shares of MediciNova Inc. increased 6.4% to $2.66 during after-hours trading on Thursday after enrolling patients in its Phase 2 clinical trial evaluating MN-166 (ibudilast) in recurrent and newly diagnosed glioblastoma.
The biopharmaceutical company said that the second part of the trial will evaluate the efficacy of a combination treatment of MN-166 and temozolomide.
MN-166 is in late-stage clinical development for the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases such as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, progressive multiple sclerosis and degenerative cervical myelopathy. It is also in development for glioblastoma, chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy and substance use disorder, the company said.
Glioblastoma is an aggressive type of cancer that can occur in the brain or spinal cord.
