CATL Trims Stake in Hunan Yuneng as Battery Materials Maker Pursues Hong Kong Listing

A-share listed company Hunan Yuneng New Energy Battery Material Co., Ltd. (301358.SZ), which is currently applying for a Hong Kong listing, announced yesterday (September 17) that shareholder CATL had reduced its shareholding in the company. Between June 26, 2026, and September 16, 2026, CATL disposed of 17,459,658 shares through centralized bidding and block trades, representing 2.05957% of the company's current total share capital.

Following this change in equity, CATL holds 42,386,482 shares in the company, accounting for 4.99999% of the current total share capital. As a result, CATL is no longer a shareholder holding more than 5% of the company's shares.

Hunan Yuneng submitted its prospectus to the Hong Kong Stock Exchange on August 17, 2026, with CITIC Securities and HSBC acting as joint sponsors. According to the preliminary prospectus, prior to the Hong Kong listing, the equity structure showed that Zhenxiang State-owned Investment, Dianhua Group, and Xiangtan Dianhua (002125.SZ), all under the Xiangtan State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission, held a combined stake of approximately 15.41%, making them the largest single group of shareholders. At that time, CATL held approximately 6.03% of the shares.

Its main product is lithium iron phosphate cathode material, while the company also strategically positions itself in frontier products such as lithium manganese iron phosphate, sodium-ion battery cathode materials, and solid-state battery cathode materials.

The company's products are primarily applied in power batteries and energy storage batteries, with core performance indicators reaching leading levels in the industry. In fiscal year 2025, Hunan Yuneng achieved full coverage of China's top ten power battery and energy storage battery manufacturers, as well as coverage of nine of the global top ten power battery manufacturers and full coverage of the global top ten energy storage battery manufacturers.

According to data from Frost & Sullivan, by shipment volume, Hunan Yuneng has ranked first globally among phosphate-based cathode material suppliers for six consecutive years from 2020 to 2025, holding a global market share of 28.2% in 2025.
