The search and cloud services provider is becoming the latest major software company to join Apache Ossie, an industry organization aimed at helping AI tools access data.

According to a Google spokesperson, Alphabet (GOOGL) is in the process of joining Apache Ossie.

Existing members of the software industry group include Snowflake and Nvidia, with the goal of making it easier for AI tools to retrieve data from various applications and databases.

The search and cloud services provider will become the newest major software vendor to join Apache Ossie.

Since last fall, the organization has been working on standardizing definitions for business metrics such as total revenue and net revenue, so that AI tools can better understand the business context behind the data.

The Information reported earlier this Tuesday that Microsoft (MSFT) had also recently become a member of Apache Ossie.

A person close to Google said that the company had participated in an early version of the standards organization as far back as November of last year, but had not previously publicly announced that it would formally join Apache Ossie; the reason was that Google had been waiting for the project to be officially placed under the Apache Software Foundation, a process that was completed in July of this year.
