On Monday, Boeing (BA.US) shares fell 5% to trade at $188.14.

According to reports, Boeing has disclosed that a software issue affecting certain 737 MAX aircraft could cause the automatic navigation system to fail during landing, drawing attention from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

The previously undisclosed software flaw stems from a cockpit software update and could increase pilot workload, particularly during low-altitude flights under challenging conditions such as severe weather.

Boeing notified 737 MAX operators in late August that pilots may be unable to use the automatic flight guidance function in specific landing scenarios. Aviation industry insiders noted that this could add distractions for flight crews "at the worst possible moment."

Boeing emphasized that pilots are trained to perform safe landings under such circumstances, and the company is working with airlines to develop procedures for reactivating the automatic navigation function when necessary. Boeing also stated that its engineers are designing a software fix.
