In Asian markets, South Korea's SK Hynix closed up 0.6%, while Samsung Electronics advanced 5%. Turning to Europe, Dutch semiconductor equipment maker ASML Holding climbed 2.8%, with smaller peer ASM International rising 1.9%. BE Semiconductor Industries, a Dutch supplier of semiconductor packaging equipment, edged up 0.1%.
German chip manufacturer Infineon added 2.4%, and STMicroelectronics gained 2.3% during the session. Meanwhile, Nasdaq 100 mini futures ticked up 0.8%, pointing to a higher opening for US tech stocks later in the day.
