Guizhou's Qiannan Prefecture Conducts Rice Harvest Yield Measurements to Strengthen Food Security Foundation

During the golden autumn season, more than 1.75 million mu of rice in Qiannan Prefecture has entered the mature harvest period. In recent days, the Qiannan Prefecture Agriculture and Rural Affairs Bureau has organized agricultural technical experts to go deep into the fields to carry out actual rice harvest yield measurements, scientifically assess the prefecture's rice output, and provide data support for subsequent rice production.

Harvesting, bagging, weighing, removing impurities, measuring moisture content... On September 21, at the fully mechanized planting demonstration base in Dapo Village, Lianjiang Street, Huishui County, prefecture- and county-level agricultural experts were conducting on-site mechanical harvesting and actual yield measurements of rice. According to calculations, the highest yield per mu in this area reached 835.6 kilograms, with an average yield per mu of 684.2 kilograms, exceeding the expected target.

Ban Le, deputy director of the Huishui County Planting Industry Development Center, said: "We have established a three-tier technical task force composed of county-level agricultural technical experts, township-level technical backbones, and village-level technical personnel, providing on-site technical services throughout the entire process, implementing a weekly field patrol work mechanism, conducting systematic observation and recording of various growth stages including the seedling stage, tillering stage, booting stage, heading and flowering stage, and grain-filling and maturity stage, strictly standardizing the yield measurement process and variety evaluation work, and ensuring that the demonstration and evaluation data are scientific, accurate, and traceable."

Huishui County is located in the central hinterland of Guizhou, with the Lianjiang River flowing through it. It is home to Guizhou's largest dam—the Lianjiang Dam—and has long been known as the "Home of Quality Rice in Huishui" and the "Home of Black Glutinous Rice." The county's perennial rice planting area exceeds 200,000 mu, making it an important grain-producing area in the province. In recent years, Huishui County has firmly upheld the bottom line of food security, thoroughly implemented the strategy of "storing grain in the land and storing grain in technology," and solidly advanced the county-wide action to increase large-scale rice yields per unit area.

In recent years, Qiannan Prefecture, relying on the driving force of industrial demonstration projects, has provided support for large-scale planting, promotion of improved varieties, farmland water conservancy construction, centralized seedling raising, and unified pest and disease control, continuously mobilizing farmers' enthusiasm for growing grain and steadily improving the quality and efficiency of agricultural production. In 2026, the prefecture's autumn grain planting area is expected to reach 3.1707 million mu, with output expected to reach 1.1504 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 2.78%.
