Singapore stocks opened nearly flat on Friday, with the STI edging higher. UMS gained 1.8%, OCBC Bank rose 0.6%, UOL fell 0.8%, and JMH USD dropped 0.4%.

The following companies saw new developments that may affect trading of their securities on Friday (Sep 25):

Far East Orchard : The developer on Thursday said that Borough High Street Development, its UK joint venture, is set to buy a London property for £60 million (US$79.3 million). The site, known as King’s Place, will be developed into a 444-bed purpose built student accommodation and a separate eight-unit key worker accommodation block. Shares of Far East Orchard closed flat at S$1.06 on Thursday, before the news.

CSE Global : The systems integrator said on Thursday that it has secured two electrification contracts in the United States worth a combined US$150 million. Shares of CSE Global ended S$0.02 or 1.6 per cent higher at S$1.26 on Thursday, before the announcement.

Addvalue Tech : Shareholders of the satellite communications provider on Thursday have approved a proposed spinoff and Nasdaq listing of its wholly owned subsidiary Addvalue Solutions (AVS), as well as an associated proposed dilution of its shares. AVS deals with the group’s business and commercial activities involving the Inter-Satellite Data Relay System. Shares of Addvalue fell 2.6 per cent to close S$0.005 lower at S$0.185 on Thursday, before the news.

Deepen Singapore-LATAM cooperation in connectivity, agri-food, green and digital economies: Foo Cexiang

There are promising opportunities for Singapore’s businesses in Latin America, particularly in three areas: connectivity and supply chains, agri-food resilience, and green and digital economies.

Minister of State for Trade and Industry Foo Cexiang said this at the Singapore Business Federation’s (SBF) third LATAM Conference on Thursday (Sep 24). The event brought together 145 business leaders, government representatives and industry stakeholders from Singapore and Latin America.

“For Singapore and South-east Asian businesses, Latin America offers growing markets, trusted partners and expanding opportunities in food, sustainability, digital innovation and logistics,” said Foo, who is also Minister of State for Manpower.

Report okayed by government calls for certified HR professional for larger firms from July 2028

The government has accepted a set of recommendations aimed at helping Singapore’s workforce adapt to rapid economic and technological change, while creating better opportunities for workers to grow and progress in their careers.

The five recommendations are detailed in a report by the Tripartite Workgroup on Human Capital Capability Development, released on Thursday (Sep 24).

One key proposal is the establishment of the Singapore Opportunity Index (SOI) as a national benchmark for workplace opportunities.
