During the autumn harvest season, bumper grain harvests are being transformed into "income-boosting feed." Since the beginning of this year, Mulan County has leveraged the advantages of its distinctive lion-head goose industry to explore a new model of grain-to-feed conversion and circular planting-breeding practices.
Heilongjiang Fengyu Goose Industry Co., Ltd. has pioneered an experiment on in-field corn conversion for direct feeding, driving the goose industry's transition from scale expansion to quality and efficiency improvement, while opening up a brand-new channel for local farmers to monetize their autumn grain.
This year, Fengyu Goose Industry purchased over 200 mu of standing corn from farmers across the county at above-market prices, using whole-plant crushing and biological fermentation processes to produce specialized goose feed. The fermented feed has excellent palatability and is more easily digested and absorbed by poultry, capable of meeting the feeding needs of 20,000 lion-head geese and effectively enhancing breeding quality.
"The silage fermented feed has shown outstanding results in feeding geese. It can save more than ten yuan in breeding costs per goose, and the feather quality and finished goose quality have also improved noticeably," said Gong Wen, a farmer participating in the experiment.
Local grain-to-feed conversion benefits both the planting and breeding ends. Through the model of targeted enterprise procurement and on-site processing and conversion, farmers can earn an additional 150 to 200 yuan per mu of corn, achieving nearby value-added grain and stable income growth. Breeders, meanwhile, rely on localized low-cost high-quality feed to effectively reduce breeding costs and improve breeding efficiency.
Fengyu Goose Industry Chairman Gao Weimin stated that the new model's experimental results have been remarkable, and the pace of industrial promotion will continue to accelerate. After corn matures next August, the company plans to procure over 5,000 mu of corn within the county. Through local grain-to-feed conversion, it will secure two months of feeding materials for 500,000 lion-head geese, building a localized, low-cost, and recyclable feed supply system.
