Fresh data from the Shanxi Survey Office of the National Bureau of Statistics indicates that producer prices for industrial goods in Shanxi province climbed 15.8% year-on-year in August, marking the fifth consecutive month of gains. On a monthly basis, prices edged up 0.5%, extending the streak of increases to six straight months.
Purchase prices for industrial producers rose 8.3% year-on-year, a slowdown of 0.5 percentage points from the previous month, while month-on-month growth came in at 0.9%, narrowing by 0.4 percentage points. Within the producer price index, prices for means of production advanced 16.7%, contributing approximately 15.7 percentage points to the overall PPI increase, whereas prices for consumer goods gained just 0.9%, adding around 0.1 percentage points.
Survey results reveal upward momentum across all major sectors tracked. Coal mining and washing prices jumped 36.9% year-on-year, with the growth rate widening by 0.1 percentage points from the prior month. The petroleum, coal, and other fuel processing industry saw prices rise 20.7%, though this represented a sharp deceleration of 15.2 percentage points compared with the previous month. Ferrous metal smelting and rolling prices increased 2.2%, slowing by 3.1 percentage points, while non-ferrous metal smelting and rolling prices climbed 8.6%, accelerating by 0.4 percentage points. Chemical raw materials and chemical products manufacturing prices advanced 11.6%, up 0.3 percentage points month-on-month, and electricity, heat production, and supply prices gained 3.1%, easing by 0.6 percentage points. Collectively, these six industries drove an estimated 15.6 percentage points of the total year-on-year PPI rise.
