On September 30 local time, the Office of Foreign Assets Control of the United States Department of the Treasury issued a special license to the Serbian Oil Company, extending the relevant license period until October 30.
The new license will allow the Serbian Oil Company and its only active refinery in the country, the Pancevo Refinery, to continue operating.
Serbia's caretaker Minister of Mining and Energy, Handanovic, stated that the current energy situation in Serbia remains very severe, affected on one hand by the geopolitical situation and rising energy prices, and on the other hand by factors such as deteriorating logistics conditions, low water levels in the Danube River, and difficulties in importing petroleum products.
The Serbian government has taken corresponding measures, releasing 5,000 tons of diesel from national reserves into the market while continuing to implement a consumption tax reduction policy that has been in place for several months.
Negotiations between the Office of Foreign Assets Control of the United States Department of the Treasury and the Hungarian Oil and Gas Company regarding the adjustment and sale of the Russian equity stake in the Serbian Oil Company are still ongoing.
