This series showcases the exploration and breakthroughs achieved under the 'Star Project' initiative, unlocking the innovative strength of Chinese specialty vehicle manufacturing.

Chapter One: The EV-RT Logistics Platform and Its Representative Product: The Fully Electric Tractor-Trailer with Wing-Open Box

True innovation is never a simple conversion from a diesel vehicle to an electric one. The EV-RT fully electric logistics platform, unveiled globally for the first time by CIMC Vehicles, positions the entire electric drive system—including the battery, motor, and electronics—within the extended chassis of the logistics semi-trailer. This enables a fully integrated, forward-engineering approach that unifies the chassis, battery pack, electric drive axle, and the superstructure into a single cohesive design. Every aspect of this development has been meticulously crafted around the core demands of logistics fleets for maximum cargo volume, optimal payload capacity, and high operational turnover.

Virtue: The Resilience of Technology

A departure from diesel-to-electric conversions, this forward-thinking reconfiguration defines a new category in logistics vehicles.

Modular Batteries Break the Physical Limits of the Tractor

Previously, the battery capacity of a tractor unit was constrained by physical space, creating a hard ceiling that was difficult to surpass. Now, the modular battery packs integrated into the semi-trailer have completely shattered this limitation. Adopting a 'definition by usage scenario' philosophy, the battery capacity can be flexibly configured based on the specific operational conditions of each route. This approach allows the total vehicle range to exceed previous limits while achieving a precise balance between driving range, payload capacity, and overall cost.

A New Generation of Tractor-Trailer Collaboration: Smoother and More Efficient

Building upon the solid testing and development expertise accumulated through our engineering platforms, the logistics platform introduces an integrated drive and braking control system. This system optimizes torque distribution and kinetic energy recovery under highway freight conditions, significantly reducing overall energy consumption while concurrently enhancing transport efficiency and driver comfort during long-haul operations.

One-Touch Smart Control of the Superstructure: Full Fleet Management in the Cloud

The platform employs standardized modular interfaces, complemented by high-power electrical connections, allowing for the convenient expansion to various superstructure types, including refrigerated boxes, dry freight vans, and curtain-sided trailers. The fully drive-by-wire superstructure supports one-touch operation and real-time status monitoring, and crucially, it establishes seamless connectivity across the vehicle, mobile devices, and the cloud. This makes future-oriented fleet management significantly more efficient and intelligent.

Value: Delivering Customer Value

At its core, business always comes down to careful calculation. CIMC Vehicles is not just engineering a technologically advanced tractor-trailer combination; they are also calculating a clear and comprehensible financial case for transport operators. This EV-RT wing-open box logistics vehicle embeds the long range, low energy consumption, and reduced labor requirements that highway freight fleets prioritize into every detail of its design.

Returning Choice to the Route: Not the Most Expensive, But the Most Precise Fit

In the past, fleet owners purchasing electric trucks were forced into a compromise between range and cost. Battery options for tractors were typically fixed at a few standard sizes, such as 400 kWh, 513 kWh, or 600 kWh. If a particular route required approximately 550 kWh, the customer had no choice but to purchase the 600 kWh version, paying a premium for 50 kWh they would never use and carrying the extra weight of that unused battery, sacrificing potential cargo capacity. Now, this forced choice has been transformed into a 'tailor-made' flexible combination. We offer battery packs ranging from 100 kWh to 400 kWh, optional for placement on the trailer. A fleet can match the battery capacity to the actual distance they need to cover, ensuring every dollar of the purchase budget is invested directly in the real miles required, striking the optimal balance between range, load, and cost for each fleet's unique situation.

Seamless Collaboration: Not Just a Smooth Ride, But Significant Cost Savings

When the tractor and trailer are conceived and developed as a single, unified platform, both the driving experience and the operational economics undergo a fundamental transformation. With every start, acceleration, and deceleration, the tractor and trailer work in precise harmony through the drive-by-wire matching and the integrated energy recovery system. This millisecond-level synchronization eliminates the traditional lurching and jerking of conventional trucks, providing drivers with a smoother and more comfortable long-haul experience. More importantly, it quietly minimizes energy consumption through daily operations, continuously enhancing the operational profit over the vehicle's entire lifecycle.

The Convenience of One-Touch Opening: Liberating People from Heavy Labor

The driver is often the most fatigued element on a long-haul route. On this lightweight aluminum-alloy body, both the top wings and the side panels are now fully controlled electronically. The driver no longer needs to get out of the vehicle and walk around to manually operate the body. From the comfort of the driver's seat, or by standing nearby and using a mobile phone or remote control, the entire side of the vehicle can be effortlessly opened with a single touch. A forklift can then seamlessly move in for loading operations, significantly reducing loading and unloading times and boosting fleet turnover efficiency. In an era where every second in logistics counts, drivers can finally enjoy a measure of well-deserved ease and control.

Voice: Customer Feedback from the Exhibition

The early autumn in Hannover was cool, but on the booth at Hall 27, the large EV-RT wing-open logistics vehicle, with its aluminum wings spreading out as effortlessly as a bird in flight, became the natural center of attention, drawing the discerning eyes of industry visitors from around the world.

(1) A senior European semi-trailer professional with silver hair repeatedly watched the staff demonstrate the opening and closing of the body near the display vehicle. He then stepped forward, knocked on the aluminum-alloy body, and couldn't help but remark: "To be honest, in Europe, wing-open semi-trailers do exist, but our current models have two major drawbacks: first, they are extremely expensive, and second, the opening and closing operation is still quite cumbersome." He pointed to the smoothly retracting side wings and continued, "But this vehicle of yours has truly achieved 'one-touch opening and one-touch closing.' This can save us a significant amount in expensive labor costs. Moreover, based on your estimated price, it is substantially more cost-effective than comparable European models. Add to that the lightweight advantage of the aluminum body, and it is indeed very attractive."

(2) Another procurement manager from a large logistics enterprise was more pragmatic in his assessment. After listening to the technical staff's explanation of the 'configure-by-need' concept, he observed: "For our business, it's all about finding the right balance between 'range' and 'payload'." "Previously, when buying electric tractors, you could only choose from a few fixed battery capacities set by the manufacturer. Putting the batteries on the trailer and offering different capacity options for different routes is a very appealing customisation approach."

(3) An expert from a leading consulting firm visiting the exhibition focused his attention on the deeper platform architecture. He closely examined the connection structure between the chassis and the electric drive axle and gave a professional and rigorous assessment: "The most impressive aspect for me is the integrated design of the tractor and trailer. First, there is the restraint in power matching. Your trailer doesn't add another set of motors as powerful as the tractor's; instead, it is precisely matched to the actual needs of the entire vehicle combination to assist the tractor. In fact, every bit of excess capacity in the motor or battery ultimately comes at the customer's expense. Precise matching is, in itself, a way of saving the customer money." "Second, is the fact that both the traction drive and braking on the trailer are fully connected via drive-by-wire." He gestured to illustrate the vehicle's dynamics, "During acceleration, the trailer's electric drive axle works in sync with the tractor, and during braking, they work together, with torque and braking force distributed in milliseconds. Drive-by-wire coordination fundamentally ensures that the trailer neither pushes nor drags the tractor, which is a key factor for road safety."

This engagement at Hannover marked a moment of global innovation outreach, but the story of the EV-RT is only just beginning. This series of seven reports will systematically deconstruct the complete innovation landscape of CIMC Vehicles' EV-RT fully electric tractor-trailer system. We invite you to follow along.
