Japan's largest power generation company JERA announced on Thursday that it will partner with U.S.-based Dell Technologies and British AI infrastructure developer RHAELM to accelerate the development of AI infrastructure in Japan.
The three parties signed a memorandum of understanding aimed at establishing a standardized framework for building AI infrastructure across Japan; the plan will begin with the construction of a $15 billion hyperscale data center in Chiba Prefecture.
According to a statement, the model will first be applied to a project in Chiba Prefecture, where Apollo Global Management plans to serve as RHAELM's strategic investment and financial partner.
The parties aim to create a standardized, replicable, and scalable model from the outset to shorten lengthy preparation cycles and reduce the complexity of developing individual projects independently.
They plan to first establish this model in Japan and then explore opportunities to extend it to other global markets.
In the Chiba Prefecture project, JERA will provide land adjacent to its Chiba power plant, while RHAELM will be responsible for developing, constructing, operating, and financing a 400-megawatt-class hyperscale AI data center.
