During the 2026 National Day holiday, Shaanxi Province will continue to implement the policy of exempting toll fees for small passenger vehicles on toll roads during major holidays.
The free passage period will run from 0:00 on October 1, 2026, to 24:00 on October 7, 2026. The policy applies to passenger vehicles with 7 seats or fewer (including 7 seats). For expressways, the time is determined by the networked toll collection system when the vehicle exits the toll lane at the exit; for ordinary arterial highways, the time is determined by when the vehicle passes through the toll lane at the toll station.
As the 2026 National Day holiday approaches, the Shaanxi Provincial Highway Bureau, in conjunction with the Shaanxi Provincial Expressway Toll Center, has analyzed and predicted the operational situation of the province's highway network during the 2026 National Day holiday based on big data analysis of traffic flow, providing reference for public travel.
It is expected that during the 2026 National Day holiday, the total exit traffic at toll stations across the province's expressway network will increase significantly compared to ordinary days. The total exit traffic over the 7-day holiday is expected to reach 18.7 million vehicle trips, averaging 2.67 million vehicle trips per day, which is twice the ordinary daily traffic volume. Among these, passenger vehicles account for 92%, while freight vehicles account for 8%. The total exit traffic of new energy vehicles is expected to reach 4.9 million vehicle trips, averaging 700,000 vehicle trips per day, accounting for approximately 26.2% of the total exit traffic on the road network.
It is estimated that the average daily cross-section traffic volume on ordinary arterial highways across the province will be 5,641 vehicles, basically flat compared to ordinary days, with passenger vehicles accounting for 68%, freight vehicles accounting for 23%, and motorcycles and other vehicle types accounting for 9%.
From a temporal perspective, during the National Day holiday, the overall traffic flow on the province's expressway network is expected to show a trend of "high at both ends, low in the middle." The travel peak is expected to occur on the first day of the holiday (October 1), when the total exit traffic on the province's expressways may exceed 2.8 million vehicle trips. It will then decline day by day, and in the latter part of the holiday, traffic will pick up again due to return trips. In terms of time distribution, travel shows an obvious "tidal" phenomenon, with daily peak traffic periods during the holiday from 10:00 to 12:00 and 17:00 to 19:00. Congestion and queuing are likely to occur at entrances and exits of toll stations in major cities.
During the holiday, expressway toll stations with higher traffic volumes are expected to be concentrated on the Xi'an Ring Road and surrounding expressways. Toll stations with higher traffic volumes include: Qujiang entrance/exit, Liucunbao entrance/exit, and Xinzhu exit. Toll stations that may experience congestion or slow traffic include: Fangzhicheng exit and Baqiao entrance/exit.
From the perspective of scenic area directions, during the holiday, expressway entrances and exits near popular scenic spots such as the Terracotta Warriors, Huaqing Pool, Bailuyuan, Yan'an Revolutionary Holy Land, Hukou Waterfall, Mount Hua, Famen Temple, and Niubeiliang are expected to face greater traffic pressure. On ordinary arterial highways leading to scenic areas along the S107 Guanzhong Ring Road, such as the Terracotta Warriors of Qin Shi Huang, Qinling Wildlife Park, Zhouzhi Water Street, Bailuyuan, and Yuanjiacun, traffic volume will be relatively high.
According to historical data statistics, during the National Day holiday, the expressway sections in the province prone to traffic accidents mainly include: the southern section of G3002 Xi'an Ring Expressway, the section between Xianyang East and Liucunbao on the Xichang section of G70 Fuzhou-Yinchuan Expressway, the section between Taiping and Jingyang North on the northern section of G3021 Xi'an Outer Ring Expressway, the section between Yingpan and Taiyigong on the Xizhen section of G65 Baotou-Maoming Expressway, the section between Weinan East and Huazhou West on the Xiwei section of G30 Lianyungang-Horgos Expressway, and the section between Zhuque and Zhifang on the Xihan section of G5 Beijing-Kunming Expressway. The sections of ordinary arterial highways in the province with frequent emergencies mainly include: the Hancheng section of G108, the Tongchuan and Fuping sections of G210, the Huayin section of G242, the Binzhou section of G312, and the Chang'an and Huyi sections of S107. Drivers passing through the above sections are reminded to drive cautiously and pay attention to traffic safety.
During the holiday, Shaanxi expressways will open a 24-hour assistance and rescue channel. If drivers and passengers encounter emergencies while driving on the road, they can directly call the hotline at 029-12122. Drivers and passengers of new energy vehicles can use the "e Road Smooth" mini-program or the "Shaanxi Transportation 12122" WeChat service account / "Shaanxi 12122" WeChat subscription account, select the "Charging Pile Quick Check" module at the bottom under "Expressway Travel" to inquire about charging information at expressway service areas. They can also call 029-12122 for consultation to facilitate advance planning of charging arrangements.
