At the 2026 World New Energy Vehicle Congress, held from September 22 to 24 in Haikou, Hainan, the competitive landscape of the automotive industry is undergoing rapid transformation. This shift is particularly pronounced in the Chinese market, where the pace of innovation has been nothing short of remarkable, according to industry leaders.
Hildegard Müller, President of the German Association of the Automotive Industry, noted in her address that 2025 alone saw over 230 new vehicle models launched in China, with product development cycles shortening dramatically. The changes are not limited to market share dynamics; technology, product offerings, R&D costs, efficiency, and customer expectations are all evolving in tandem at an accelerated rate.
She emphasized that German automakers continue to play a significant role, aggressively pursuing research and development across software, autonomous driving, and new infrastructure to enhance vehicle safety and quality. At the same time, Chinese enterprises have demonstrated formidable strength, particularly in electrification, battery technology, and an increasingly broad range of smart features, positioning them as key players in the global market.
While competition has intensified, German companies remain confident, looking forward to fair competition that they believe will elevate efficiency across the entire industry.
