YANCOAL AUS Secures NSW Green Light to Extend Hunter Valley Operations Until 2045

Yancoal Australia Ltd (YANCOAL AUS) announced that the New South Wales Independent Planning Commission (IPC) has formally approved the Hunter Valley Operations (HVO) Continuation Project, authorising mining at the HVO complex through the end of 2045.

The IPC decision concludes a six-year state-level regulatory review during which the project design and operational framework were adjusted to meet New South Wales and federal environmental standards and net-zero policy requirements. The approval directly supports approximately 1,570 mine workers, in addition to local suppliers and the broader Hunter Valley community.

While the state permit delivers long-term visibility for the mine, federal environmental clearance from the National Environmental Protection Agency remains outstanding. HVO must obtain this approval by 31 December 2026 to execute the full extension plan.

Chief Executive Officer Sharif Burra highlighted broad regional backing for the project, noting strong support during the IPC public hearing from community stakeholders and multiple tiers of government.

The board underscored that continued engagement with federal regulators will be the next critical step in securing the mine’s projected 19-year operational horizon.
