Bank of China released its 2026 interim report, highlighting solid half-year performance and a steady balance-sheet expansion.
Financial Performance – Operating income rose 8.41 % year on year to RMB357.11 billion. – Net interest income increased 10.20 % to RMB236.73 billion, while non-interest income grew 5.04 % to RMB120.38 billion. – Profit attributable to equity holders reached RMB123.59 billion, up 5.10 %. – Return on average assets stood at 0.67 %; return on average equity at 8.66 %. – Net interest margin edged up 1 basis point to 1.27 %.
Balance Sheet Highlights – Total assets expanded 4.77 % from year-end to RMB40,186.35 billion. – Gross loans and advances increased 5.49 % to RMB24,741.13 billion; RMB corporate lending rose 8.63 %. – Total deposits grew 2.46 % to RMB26,825.76 billion, with RMB corporate deposits up 1.27 % and RMB personal deposits up 5.05 %. – Financial investments climbed 8.51 % to RMB10,481.32 billion. – Common Equity Tier 1 ratio: 12.04 %; Tier 1 ratio: 13.65 %; total capital adequacy ratio: 18.31 %. – Leverage ratio: 7.23 %.
Asset Quality – Non-performing loans amounted to RMB301.80 billion; NPL ratio improved 1 basis point to 1.22 %. – Allowance coverage of NPLs rose to 200.85 %. – Credit cost held at 0.58 %, unchanged year on year.
Segment & Geographic Mix – Chinese mainland operations provided 78.63 % of operating income; Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan contributed 17.01 %; other overseas markets delivered 4.36 %. – By business line, commercial banking generated 91.09 % of operating income; investment banking and insurance accounted for 5.52 %.
Capital Actions & Dividends – The bank issued RMB30.00 billion in undated capital bonds and RMB100.00 billion in Tier-2 capital bonds; RMB50.00 billion of undated bonds were redeemed. – A 2026 interim dividend of RMB1.190 per 10 shares (before tax) has been proposed, subject to shareholder approval.
Management Notes The board emphasised continued support for China’s “five major tasks”—technology, green, inclusive, pension and digital finance—while maintaining prudent risk management.
