Sony Group will not take part in the 2027 CES exhibition, and its affiliated companies will also be absent, according to a report today (the 28th) by Nikkei.
As the company shifts its business focus toward entertainment fields such as gaming and music, the significance of Sony Group's participation in CES has gradually diminished.
Sony Group had exhibited continuously from 1967 through 2025. In 2026, Sony Group itself did not exhibit; the booth that appeared was that of Sony Honda Mobility, a joint venture established with Honda.
The Sony Honda Mobility booth displayed the AFEELA electric vehicle, offered hands-on experience with PlayStation consoles, and showcased technologies such as spatial capture. Sony Group stated: "As our business focus shifts toward entertainment, IP (intellectual property), and creative technology, we have decided not to exhibit this time. We will continue to cooperate with the organizer, the U.S. Consumer Technology Association (CTA), in the future."
Whether Sony will exhibit after 2028 remains undecided.
The report noted that it is generally believed that securing a prominent booth location or larger display space at CES requires continuous participation and the relationships with the CTA that come with it. If Sony Group returns to CES in the future, it is uncertain whether it can still secure the prime location near the entrance that it had in the past.
According to IT Home, another long-time exhibitor will also be absent from CES 2027: Panasonic Holdings, which had exhibited for 60 consecutive years, has also decided not to participate.
