According to reports, U.S. President Donald Trump may announce as early as Wednesday a series of South Korean investment projects in the United States, including a liquefied natural gas (LNG) project in Alaska, which are being advanced under the bilateral trade agreement reached last year.

Sources say Trump could unveil his administration's plan to use South Korea's strategic investment fund to advance several major projects, including about $54 billion for the Alaska LNG project.

South Korea and the United States have been coordinating the announcement of these investment projects; under the previously reached trade deal, South Korea pledged to invest $300 billion in the U.S. in exchange for lower U.S. tariffs on South Korean goods.

According to sources in Seoul, South Korea's Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy reported to the National Assembly last week that the two countries have selected the construction of a large gas-fired power plant in Texas as the first investment project.

As for the second and third projects, the ministry's reported plans include building eight large nuclear reactors in the United States and carrying out a Cheniere Energy (LNG) project in Alaska.
