Domestically Produced Heavy-Duty Gas Turbine Generates 70,000 kWh Per Hour: A Key Leap for China's Heavy-Duty Gas Turbines

A "pearl of industry" bearing the logo of Dongfang Electric slowly rolled out of the border gate at the Khorgos Port in Xinjiang on September 23, bound for Jambyl Region in Kazakhstan.

Do not underestimate this large machine heading west — it is China's independently developed F-class 50-megawatt heavy-duty gas turbine, also known as "Dongfang Shuguang" No. 1, with the code name G50.

The departure of "Dongfang Shuguang" No. 1 abroad means it will be used in Kazakhstan's first 70-megawatt gas combined cycle power plant project.

In combined cycle mode, it generates more than 70,000 kWh per hour, enough to meet the daily electricity demand of 7,000 households.

It can also serve as a "backup power source" when wind and photovoltaic power cannot keep up, steadily supporting the grid for new energy and keeping the lights on for thousands of households.

From domestic independent substitution to facing global competition head-on, this is a key leap for domestically produced heavy-duty gas turbines.
