Yu Chengdong Breaks Silence: SERES Wants to Lead on Its Own, and We Back Them

On September 24, Yu Chengdong, Huawei's Executive Director and Chairman of the Terminal BG, responded to the recent adjustment in the AITO cooperation model at a HarmonyOS Intelligent Mobility store in Hefei.

Yu Chengdong stated: "SERES has made tremendous progress in capabilities through these years of cooperation with us. Now they want to take the lead themselves, so they proposed to do it on their own. We support them."

Yu Chengdong also said on social media: "Next, we will focus on Zunjie, Xiangjie, Zhijie, and Shangjie, so that each Jie brand can obtain more ample resources, and the teams can have more energy to refine products and improve the experience, allowing the four Jie brands to rapidly upgrade and benefit the common development of HarmonyOS Intelligent Mobility."

"Whichever Jie brand everyone chooses, we hope this car can accompany everyone through their days well," Yu Chengdong said.

It is worth noting that this is the first time Yu Chengdong has publicly discussed why SERES is taking over the operational leadership of AITO. Previously, news that the cooperation model between Huawei and SERES would change drew widespread attention.

On September 15, a person familiar with the matter told observers that AITO would implement "exclusive and dedicated operations," with independent sales channels, but it would still belong to the HarmonyOS Intelligent Mobility system. On the same day, HarmonyOS Intelligent Mobility and AITO issued a statement clarifying that AITO's product definition, product design, brand marketing, channel retail, and service system would be led by SERES, with Huawei Terminal participating in empowerment; existing user rights and subsequent services would not be affected.

Afterward, Kang Bo, director and vice president of Seres Group, said that AITO remains a member of HarmonyOS Intelligent Mobility, and SERES will continue to receive relevant Huawei technology, products, and supply guarantees.

On September 20, Huawei's Qiankun Intelligent Vehicle Solution (Yinwang Intelligent Technology Co., Ltd.) responded that it would continue to provide SERES with intelligent vehicle solutions and technical support including Qiankun ADS and HarmonyOS Cockpit.

Regarding outside speculation about a "breakup" between the two sides, SERES Chairman Zhang Xinghai responded on September 22: "There is no breakup. We have always been together, and we will be together in the future as well." He said the cooperation model upgrade mainly centers on AITO's "exclusive and dedicated operations," and that "the brand needs to be upgraded and the service needs to be upgraded."
