Rising Bond Yields Weigh on Precious Metals, Silver Tumbles to Lowest Since August

Silver futures (SI.1) hit a new low of $60.63 per troy ounce, the weakest level since August 5, when silver was quoted at $59.62.

Silver ETF (SLV) has fallen nearly 10% over the past five trading sessions.

Pressured by rising bond yields, gold and silver prices plunged sharply on Monday, with silver suffering the steeper decline.

COMEX silver (December 2026 contract) gold and silver prices, although the two precious metals broadly move in tandem, investors view them quite differently in key respects.

Compared with gold, silver is cheaper and typically more volatile, while gold is a highly effective portfolio diversification tool.

At the same time, silver is more deeply tied to the global economy. More than half of silver demand comes from industrial applications, spanning smartphones, tablets, automotive electrical systems, solar cells and a wide range of products, making silver more sensitive than gold to changes in manufacturing activity and economic growth.
