Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook said inflation remains undesirably high and reaffirmed her commitment to achieving price stability.
"Whether in rural or urban areas, the fact remains that inflation has been too high for too long," Cook said Wednesday in prepared remarks for an event in Asheville, North Carolina.
She said: "I am committed to bringing inflation back to our target level while keeping the labor market strong."
Cook voted earlier in September alongside other members of the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) to raise the benchmark interest rate by 25 basis points to 3.75%-4%. She noted that U.S. inflation has exceeded the Fed's 2% target for more than five years.
"Energy costs may place a heavier burden on rural communities, partly because residents there may need to travel much greater distances for employment and access to services," Cook said at the conference hosted by the Richmond Fed and focused on U.S. rural investment.
