COSCO Ship Energy Surges Over 3% as VLCC Rates Stay Elevated; Institutions Bullish on Near-Term Tanker Market Strength

COSCO Ship Energy (01138) rose over 3%, up 3.42% as of press time to HK$18.43, with turnover of HK$169 million.

On the news front, the Baltic Exchange's September 25 weekly report showed that on September 24, TD3C TCE stood at US$1.2354 million per day, with Middle East route WS quotes edging slightly lower from last Friday; this week, TD15 and TD22 period-end TCE were US$507,100 per day and US$407,100 per day respectively, with the West Africa route pulling back and the US Gulf route continuing to strengthen.

Sinolink Securities believes that the current phase is one of US-Iran rivalry, with strait blockade situations fluctuating and affecting market confidence; combined with new geopolitical risks emerging in the Red Sea region, the market is still repeating this logic in the short term: strait passage obstruction -> oil supply tightness + ships taking evasive detours -> tanker freight rates rising; therefore, the firm believes that the tanker market will maintain prosperity in the short term.
