On Tuesday, Oracle (ORCL.US) surged rapidly during intraday trading, climbing more than 8% at one point. As of press time, the stock was up nearly 7%, trading at $141.80.
On the news front, on September 29, intelligent data infrastructure company NetApp and Oracle announced a brand-new fully managed storage service that natively brings enterprise-grade NetApp storage into Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI). The service natively delivers NetApp ONTAP data management capabilities into the OCI environment, helping enterprises simplify the migration and management of critical AI and business workloads in the cloud. The OCI NetApp storage service is planned to become fully generally available within the next 12 months.
The OCI NetApp storage service is an OCI-native, fully managed storage offering that brings the full suite of NetApp ONTAP data management capabilities to OCI. With this service, enterprises can migrate, run, secure, and modernize databases, enterprise applications, virtualized environments, electronic design automation/high-performance computing (EDA/HPC), highly regulated workloads, and AI data pipelines, all while continuing to use their familiar storage operations model.
Pravjit Tiwana, Senior Vice President and General Manager of NetApp Cloud Storage and Services, said: "Customers want to move AI and enterprise businesses to the cloud without sacrificing operational convenience, data management capabilities, or reliability. The OCI NetApp storage service gives users an authentic OCI cloud experience while leveraging ONTAP's proven capabilities for data protection, migration, compliance governance, and multi-protocol access."
Customers can manage this OCI NetApp storage service through the OCI console, software development kits, ONTAP application programming interfaces, and existing operational workflows. As an OCI-native service, it helps customers migrate their existing ONTAP-based businesses to the cloud with minimal application refactoring and storage management changes.
For core business scenarios in large-scale, highly regulated industries, the OCI NetApp storage service extends this proven storage capability to OCI, delivering consistent data management, high availability, security, and predictable performance between on-premises and cloud environments.
Konstantinos (kp) Papamiltiadis, Senior Vice President of Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Partner Business, said: "Enterprises migrating to the cloud don't have to tear down and rebuild their entire data infrastructure. The OCI NetApp storage service provides customers with a trusted, familiar path to the cloud, allowing enterprises to focus on the value of their data business itself rather than spending energy on underlying storage management."
Alvaro Celis, Senior Vice President and Head of Chief Commercial and Partner Ecosystem at NetApp, said: "By launching a native ONTAP-based storage service on OCI, we combine OCI's scale and performance advantages with NetApp's enterprise data capabilities to empower customers to run all types of core business workloads. This collaboration brings tangible value especially to highly regulated industries, making it easier for enterprises to migrate, modernize, and protect critical business applications on OCI."
