Logitech CEO Hanneke Faber has revealed that the global artificial intelligence boom is putting severe pressure on the traditional consumer technology supply chain.
Faber said that in order to secure critical component supplies for the company's mice, keyboards and gaming peripherals, she spent the entire summer traveling around the world. "All summer I was begging, borrowing and even stealing chips," Faber said, before quickly clarifying: "I don't want to say stealing. It was begging and borrowing!"
Faber explained that the production of global memory and storage chips is currently highly concentrated among a handful of leading companies, while explosive demand from the AI industry chain has absorbed a large amount of production capacity, directly squeezing the room for survival of consumer electronics manufacturers such as Logitech International SA.
She stressed that the chip shortage facing the entire industry will continue in the short term.
