The website was officially unveiled at an all-day launch event in Washington, attended by President Trump, Vice President J.D. Vance, and multiple government officials and industry leaders.
U.S. Chief Design Officer Joe Gebbia said on Tuesday that the Trump administration launched this chatbot to help Americans conveniently access various government websites, with its underlying AI capabilities coming from Google's Gemini and Elon Musk's Grok.
At 10 a.m. Eastern Time, the America.gov website officially went live. Ahead of the launch, Gebbia said on the program "Squawk Box": "We have very strong partners behind us." Grok's developer xAI has now been acquired by SpaceX and renamed SpaceXAI; Google and SpaceXAI did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
Gebbia said: "40 million people visit government websites every day to handle various matters. I think everyone would agree that the experience of government websites could be much better."
The website launch event was held at the Andrew W. Mellon Auditorium in Washington, lasting a full day, with President Trump, Vice President J.D. Vance, government officials, and multiple industry leaders in attendance.
In his speech at the event, Trump said: "This is by no means just an ordinary website. It is a reclaiming of America's founding purpose, and a reshaping of the government service model for the 21st century and beyond."
The White House revealed that the conference also featured multiple themed roundtable discussions covering topics including artificial intelligence, energy, healthcare, space, and agriculture.
