The tea house filled with longtime patrons raising their cups, the plaza alive with leaping lions, and crowds pausing before street displays to snap photos — all of it unfolded on the morning of September 26, when the Chashanli · Muguang district at No. 5 Longyou Road officially opened its doors.
Inside and around the freshly renovated old factory buildings, throngs of people gathered in a lively scene, with many nearby residents coming to get a first taste of the new spot. Industrial heritage and everyday street life collided head-on during this Mid-Autumn holiday.
This site was once the production base of the Changzhou Marine Cable Factory, first built in 1958, and bore witness to the glory days of Changzhou's specialty cable industry. Standing before the renewed old factory, district manager Ms. Jiang pointed to the preserved red-brick exterior wall and said: "The district is not about simply tearing down the old and building new. What the renovation team valued most was 'not erasing memory.' We hope to blend Changzhou's rich industrial memory with modern trends and the warmth of neighborhood life, so that the old factory truly becomes a vibrant, lively source of daily life."
Residents living nearby feel the changes most directly. Aunt Chen, who lives in Qingliang Xincun, said: "This old factory used to sit idle, but now it's great — the supermarket has opened right at our doorstep, making grocery shopping much more convenient. The elderly in the family have a place to take walks, and they can sit in the tea house, drink tea and chat. It's quite pleasant." Young resident Mr. Qian shared the same view: "In the past, going out to eat or work out meant driving to a commercial area. Now there's a café, restaurants, and a gym right at our doorstep, which is much more convenient for us, and we're happy to bring friends over to stroll around."
From shopping, dining, and fitness to walking, taking kids out, and relaxing, the district is gradually embedding itself into the daily routines of nearby residents, becoming a "living room at the doorstep." Ms. Jiang introduced that to make life easier for surrounding residents, the Chashanli · Muguang district is organized around six major themes — business offices, sports and fitness, specialty dining, bistro bars, cultural and creative trendy goods, and founder co-created brands — and has brought in well-known brands such as HUAWEI, Pizza Hut, Chaoboxuan NB, and Manner Coffee, along with specialty stores including Glasses Seafood Stalls, Chashan Grand Tea House, Olivia Fitness, Qiejiangnan, Sishi Space, CHICO Coffee, Sichuan cuisine, and Chunjing Old Hotpot. At present, the first floors of all eight buildings in the district are fully leased. During the trial operation period, weekday evenings and weekend lunch and dinner hours have been the district's peak traffic times. Next, the six themed spaces will continue to be deepened so that citizens of all ages can find a reason to linger here.
During the opening period, the district launched its first batch of activities. From September 26 to 27, September 30, and October 1 to 5, the Muguang Concert will begin promptly at 18:00 every evening.
